Hello,
i have a ASUS G771, HDD HGST 7K1000-1000, 1TB, 7200 rpm, with error 'Reboot and Select proper Boot device. Insert Boot media in selected Boot device and press a key'. I replaced the HDD with a SSD and the laptop starts normally. I have installed the HDD on a Asus Gl 703ge, and the laptop starts normally. I checked the HDD when it was installed on Asus GL 703 GE and has no errors. Please help, why is not working the HDD on the Asus G771 ?

^ If your laptop's HDD came bundled with said laptop, then you're in possession of a decade old drive(plus/minus) and if the drive was in charge of the OS boot drive. Chances are that it's giving up the ghost.
But i ve installed on GL 703 ge as a boot drive and was no problem. The laptop started normally.
