eSATA for an external SSD???

I have a laptop I purchased for college. It is a Dell Latitude E6430. In my old gaming rig, that I do not plan to take to college, I have a Samsung 840 Evo 250gb that I would like to use for external storage. The laptop currently has a 256GB enternal SSD. The laptop also has an eSATA port on the side. I do not fully understand eSATA. I am wondering what would be the best way to connect my external SSD to be able to use it for additional storage. Buy an external enclosure with either an eSATA or USB interface. Put the SSD in, and connect as needed.
