ESATA -> internal optical drive connection

Hi, I would like to know if this will work.

The idea is using this eSATA port,

with,

to connect usual internal dvd-rw optical drive.

My guess it should work, although Im not sure if eSATA port will be able to power optical drive without a problem.

So my question is, will this safely work, in the same manner as if I used normal SATA connector with a PSU connector for power?

well i guess its not that easy

i connected this http://delock.com/produkte/S_84396/merkmale.html to my dvd drive and it didnt work, no power, drive didnt work.

maybe i should have tried http://delock.com/produkte/S_84402/merkmale.html as it is 12V instead of 5V only for the previous cable.

Odd are tha tyour esata port is not a powered esata port, not many motherbd esata ports are...

Attach a sata power connector to your drive and it will work fine.
