i have an asus sabertooth 990fx that has 2 esata ports on the back of the motherboard. i got a cable the other day and have been trying ever since to get this working with no luck. i have gone into the bios and i think enabled the esata, its connected at boot but not seen in bios, the drive does not spin up and windows 10 can not see it in device manager or disk management. i have tried both 2.5 and 3.5 drives with zero success. all usb slots work, and all the sata internal channels work. the motherboard is less than a year old and everything works except the esata. anyone have any ideas on how i can get this to work?

according to the specs the esata is supposed to provide both 5v and 12v to the hdd so any sized drive should work.

Solution
if both are red then the model of your sabertooth 990fx you gave is incomplete. do you have R.2 perhaps ?
because the manual for the sabertooth 990fx R.2 states both ports are RED and are not POWER Esata but just plain eSata

i have tried it in both and neither works. if the (green) and (red) indicate actual port color, both are red

it is revision 2.0. we were both reading the wrong manual i guess. well, that clears it up for sure. thanks for the help
