.ESM File application help

I love to play fallout 4 and try different mods. The meshes on the weapons became blank resulting in invisible guns so i had to check the mod files and such. Fallout 4 prefs, and the ini file and such. I opened the wrong file with notepad or wordpad or something, it was the fallout4.esm I can no longer open the mod manager or use any mods because the file cannot be read anymore. it was a blank slate piece of paper cause i dont have anything to read it, but i cannot figure out how to change it back to default so my fallout 4 game kinda wont start correctly anymore. any ideas on how to make my computer forget the esm file isnt a wordpad or notepad? i cant find anything that can read the file properly.

Are you running Windows 10? If so in the start menu start typing file type. Should come up with "Choose a default app for each type of file". Click that.
Find .esm on the left side. Change the app to nothing.

I cant change it to nothing, there isnt a default button or anything. "Chose and App" then when i click it, it only says Wordpad and Look for and app in the app store. Clicking the esm on the left does nothing. The app store has, Power Movie, Recoil, and Hex Map. None work. How do i change it to nothing?

It now seems that i cannot play any fallout games or skyrim with any mods because the ESM. file is no longer usable since i made my mistake. Any ideas?
