Now this is basketball done right, most of the time anyway.
Good:
You finally a rewarded with driving to the basket. Blocking and hacks are
called realistically, and if you want to devise a strategy of getting the
other team in foul trouble, it's a feasible one now.
Recruiting is realistic -- I once got LIU as far as the Sweet Sixteen -- it
impressed local 3 star products, but not 4 or 5 start prospects. I actually
got a 4 star prospect once, but he was a NYC boy who didn't care about
school size and wanted to remain home. It's very very very difficult to get
national prospects if your conference RPI is 23.
Nice archival. While actual stats aren't kept of graduated players
Bad:
The game is a little buggy. There are some text errors in emails, and some
software bugs. Only one is devastating -- and that only happens if the
legacy file is corrupted.
Recruiting can be a little odd sometimes. A 3 star recruit won't join your
team if you're the only team interested?
Somewhere in between:
The game actually does a sliding scale -- if you are a 75 rated team and
play a 95 rated team, suddenly you'll find them hitting 3's from anywhere on
the court, even triple teamed, and so forth. I'd prefer the lesser team
having more problems than the better team becoming supermen. However, it
does prevent on regular difficulty and up 15 seeds beating #2's, etc. Even
on Walk On, a #16 won't beat a #1 without cheating. It becomes pretty
artificial, though, but it's the only way to prevent exploits, I suppose.
Overall, the best basketball game I've played yet.
