Question Ethernal usb ethernet dongle 3.0

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my thread.

My motherboard is old and is capped at 100mbps internet speed, My isp gives me 400mbps, if I use usb 3.0 external dongle lan adapater will I reach the 400mbps ?

Are you working with an aftermarket router/networking device or was it provided by your ISP? Please include it's make and model if you're working with an off-the-shelf router.

Yes if you can make sure you have USB 3.0 ports (usually blue color) on your motherboard.

Be very sure you actually have USB 3 ports. Machines started coming standard with gigabit ethernet long before USB 3 existed. If you machine only has 100mbps it would be very strange machine to have those extremely fast USB but only a 100mbps port. A gigiabit ethernet chip is actually cheaper than a USB3 chip...not that either cost more than a few pennies when you buy thousands.

If you have USB3 it should give you the 400mbps. Be aware it uses more CPU because there are multiple levels of drivers. Almost undetectable on modern machines but older CPU you might see the load.
