I'm a student who uses a laptop (Lenovo Yoga pro 2) for all my schoolwork and I have a desktop for gaming. For a while, I've kept them separate in different parts of the house. But I had an idea the other day to somehow combine the two. What I would like to do is be able to take my laptop to school and save documents to the hard drive but then be able to "dock" my laptop to my desktop and access all of the files on the laptop with the power and convince of the desktop. I can wirelessly access my laptop's files from the desktop by going to windows explorer and using network to access it. They are also both on a homegroup so I have access to the files. But that is slow and unreliable. What I'm wondering is would it work to plug Ethernet cables into both the laptop and the desktop and connect them to a router. Then, could I still use my wireless adapter in the desktop or the laptop to access the internet because the router can't be connected to the internet. Or can I set up the router to connect to my other router like a wireless network adapter. Or is there a better system for doing this whole system?
