We have our main Internet cable lying on the floor stretched across our house. It goes from the port in the kitchen, across the hall, and to the router/switch in my wife's office. It's been a safety hazard for a long time and I've been putting off fixing it, but it's time to get it done. My wife said that there were some brackets I could use to secure the cable to the wall so I could get it off the floor; what should I be looking for?

If your Internet starts from the kitchet, most probably you have ADSL connection, and you are running phone cable between the kitchen and the router. Check to see whether you have phone outlet in the room where the router is located. You will still need DSL filter placed on the phone at the kitchet.

If you're looking to hide the cabling and get it off the floor, you can use a surface mount raceway product from a company such as Panduit. The small track is perfect for hiding a single cable and attaches to the wall with adhesive strips, so there are no holes in the walls or baseboard. If you're worried about the adhesive peeling off the paint, you could replace it with the refill adhesive strips from the 3M Command wall hooks, which will pull off the wall without marring the surface.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Yes, we do have ADSL and it is a phone cable (sorry, had my wires crossed in the OP). Apparently, there is no functioning phone outlet in her office, so we can't connect it using a shorter cable. Also, we don't have an attic or a basement. It's a small starter house.

I'll look at all the options and probably use a combination of runners and clips/staples.

Again, thanks.
