Ethernet Cable Unplugged > No flashing lights, not sure on what's wrong

Good day.

Yesterday, after my friend finished her computer build, we realized that she never bought a WiFi adapter. To fix this, I let her borrow mine, seeing as my computer is relatively close to my router/modem and I could just hook an ethernet cable up.

However, this is where my issues began. I have the "Network Cable Unplugged" message under my Ethernet, even though I have a cable running from my router to computer. I'll explain what I have tried so far.

1) Replacing ethernet cable > Just bought a new Cat6 cable from Walmart, no dice.
2) Changing the Speed & Duplex option, tried every single speed.
3) Installing new motherboard drivers (for LAN connection), latest appears to be late 2015/early 2016 from the gygabite website.
4) Different ethernet slots on router (tried all four).

I have also tried hooking up to my modem ethernet slots. It's a weird modem/router that AT&T said we had to use, but we bought our own router and the wireless runs through that.

Some other important information:
Router: Archer C3200
Modem: ARRIS NVG599
Ethernet Cable: 50 ft Blackweb CAT6 Flat Network cable
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3

Another thing to note: I have no flashing lights on the back of my computer by the ethernet slot (when it is plugged in) nor in the back of my router. The wireless connection works fine (with my phone and laptop).

Is this an issue with my computer or this weird AT&T Modem/Router > Archer Router setup? ?[/strike]

UPDATE: After testing with the 360 (and the wired connection working) the issue has been narrowed down to my computer. This is an issue with my desktop.

UPDATE 2: The LED lights next to my ethernet cable (when plugged into my machine) are not lit up. This isn't a good thing, is it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
Did you look into the bios to make sure ethernet is enabled? Same for Device Manager in windows?

If you're close enough to use a cat6 it would be better to keep it and get a lan card instead of another wireless.
Have you changed settings in comp to use LAN instead of WiFi?
Is LAN activated at all in your PC (it may be disabled either in BIOS or in Win)? If LAN is turned on and not broken you should get LEDs when you connect ethernet cable to RJ45 port. Unless it's not working on router side, that is. Can you check if cable connection works with different PC (your laptop)?

Yes, it is enabled in BIOS. Here is a link to what my Ethernet "Unplugged" message and network adapters device manager tree looks like: http://

I will try the ethernet cable with the Xbox 360 and get back to you shortly.

UPDATE: The ethernet cable does indeed work with the Xbox 360, so this is definitely computer sided. Ideas?

Other then LAN chip malfunction?
The only thing coming to mind is that RJ45 port could be damaged. Or maybe just dirty? Take a good look at it, maybe you can see something ...

I've had my computer for less than two or three months, so I don't feel like it being dirty is a problem. I checked anyways, and didn't notice a thing! Does this IP Configuration mean anything to you?

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : DESKTOP-JF16D4G
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

Ethernet adapter Ethernet:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 1C-1B-0D-73-8F-FD
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

My knowledge is little short here ...

... but this part looks ok. Well, aside from that 'disconnected', but that's obvious.

Have you ever before used wired connection on this comp? Or is it a first try?

This is the first try. I have never used a wired connection before this, actually. Maybe I'm missing something silly?

So you don't know if it ever worked. Maybe it was bad from the very beginning. Well, unless you somehow get those LEDs to light up, there's not much to be done with it. So the mobo is still under guaranty, right? In this case I would contact Gigabyte customer service and ask them about that problem.

Maybe it was! The motherboard was under free return warrantee, until February 1st. RIP. I think contacting Gigabyte customer service is a great idea, I should have done that sooner. I will be doing that right now!

Well it may take them a while to answer, considering that it's a middle of night :)

It's alright. Thank you for all your help! I'll be returning my ethernet cable and purchasing a new wifi-adapter card. I'm done with this!

Thanks for the help, anyways! :)
