Ethernet cable wont give internet

So in the past I have used a wireless adapter for my computer, however recently I got faster internet so I thought it would be best to take advantage of this with wired internet. It also didn't help that the new internet wouldn't come through my wireless adapter. When I tried to connect my computer to the Ethernet cable it didn't give me any internet. The led's next to the Ethernet port indicated that my computer is ready to wake up from S5 mode. How do I get my computer out of S5 mode? I know that the problem is not with the cord because it gives internet when hooked up to my laptop.

What version of windows is on it?? Have the drivers for it been installed?

its windows 8, and no i wasn't aware that there were drivers for it. My brother seems to get the internet fine without drivers so it seems like the problem is just with me for some reason.

Most devices need drivers. Altho windows 8 should install drivers for it. Hmm so whats the cable plugged into?

The router?

yeah the cable is connected directly into the router

Try another ethernet connection on the router. You may have plugged it into the wrong one

I tried that and I still have the problem. I think the main problem is the S5 mode, because the led indicates that the computer is getting internet, it just cant use it in this mode

Right mouse on the ethernet connection in network connections. Select diagnose. See what that says

It doesnt even come up in my networks

Hmm. Look in device manager under network adapters. Does it appear here?

If it doesnt then its either faulty or disabled in the BIOS

So its not coming up there. If its disabled in the BIOS, how would i go about turning it back on?

Go into the BIOS and enable the LAN option

I enabled the LAN option and it still does not show up in my networks

Does it appear in device manager then?? If it doesnt then it sounds like its dead

I got it to work! Turns out I just needed some more drivers. Thanks for the help
