The Ethernet Card on My Dell XPS 8930 is a bit unreliable. I've had to jiggle the cord a couple of times to get it working. We tried several cords with similar problems....so it's somewhere in the onboard card, or around the input to the card. Dell wants to replace the Motherboard as the Ethernet is wedded to the board. But Isn't there a simpler solution such as a PCI slot Ethernet Card giving me similar speeds? The system is under warranty but frankly, changing the MB with a another fluky Ethernet connection seems unnecessary...if there is a viable alternative.

Thanks

IMHO, if you're getting the board replaced, it's probably because there might be something inherently wrong with the batch of builds you've gotten. In spite of a repalcement if the issue persists, you could move towards a refund of sorts or have Dell manage the situation with an RMA(again) or you could take your chances and just get a replacement add-in networking card for the board.

I would avail the warranty scheme first and then be worried about the other details later. If you were outside of warranty, that's when we'd have said, to go buy an Ethernet card or a wireless networking adapter.

Speaking of which, do you have a wireless router at home?
