Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster, and I need your help.

My computer is having an issue with its ethernet connection, the cord is plugged in, however it says “Unidentified network” and “No internet access” when viewing the network.

I should note that everything was working perfectly fine 2 hours ago, but my ISP suddenly reset my modem/router combo, causing it to restart making my services temporarily unavailable. All services have since been restored and other computers in the household are working fine, however mine is affected.

When running ipconfig /all in a command prompt, these are my results:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>ipconfig /all

Also, I did try searching before posting and have tried all of the methods listed here http://troubleshooter.xyz/wiki/fix-ethernet-doesnt-have-a-valid-ip-configuration/, and read several other threads on THW, to no avail. When running the command ipconfig /renew, it brings up this error message:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>ipconfig /renew
Windows IP Configuration
An error occurred while renewing interface Ethernet : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.
C:\WINDOWS\system32>

What can I do to resolve this? Thank you in advance!

Solution
What make and model modem/router?

Doublecheck the Ethernet cable and its plugs. Try another known working Ethernet cable. Try another LAN port on the router. Some routers have configurable ports (WAN or LAN) - the default settings may have changed the port.

Check the "ipconfig /all" results on another working network computer.

Use that information to reconfigure your computer's network adapter with respect to Default Gateway, DHCP server, and DNS Servers, etc..

And sometimes you may just need to cold boot all devices but allow some time between the boots. Could be Windows just needs time to sort out the network configuration with respect to who is who and what is what.
