Ethernet Connection not found on startup

My Dell Latitude E6420 was just reloaded from Window XP to Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit with SP1. My Ethernet Adapter: Intel(R) 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection. My wireless connects to the network without any problem. However, my Ethernet connection will not be recognized until the cable is unplugged and plugged back in from either the laptop or the wall jack (either side fixes it). This is the case regardless to if my wireless is turned on or not when the laptop boots up. IPconfig shows Media State: Media disconnected. As soon as I disconnect the cable and plug it back in, I get an IP address. I’m at work so we’re using a DNS server. I had no problems with network connectivity under Windows XP on this laptop. Any ideas?

Try installing the Windows 7 LAN network driver for the E6420 direct from Dell Support. Go here and enter your laptop's Service Tag (it's underneath) on this page: http://www.dell.com/support/my-support/us/en/04
