Hi!

I have recently moved my desktop from one house to another after lending it to a friend.
Now setting it up, I cannot connect to the internet.
Troubleshooting revealed "Ethernet controller doesn't have a driver".

I have already searched multiple forum threads and have tried:
- Installing Ethernet Controller Driver (LAN_Win7_64_PROWin_19.1.exe)
- Installing Network Adaptor from Intel (PROWinx64)
Both failed with the error message:
"Cannot install drivers. No Intel(R) adaptors are present in this computer"

I also tried installing the LAN driver specific for the motherboard (Atheros_Win7-64_Win7_Vista64_Vista_XP64_XP (v1.0.0.32) ), which gave the error message:
"Installer can't find Atheros AR81 Family Ethernet controller on your system".

Additionally, the audio driver is not working. As I have tried reinstalling it with no effect, I presume it is a related problem that will resolve with the other driver issue?

Specs:
- Windows 7 Ultimate
- 64bit
- Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
- Motherboard: ASRock G41M-VS3 (CPUSocket)

I know very little about computers, please let me know if additional information is required to fix this problem!

Thank you so much for your help,

Cat

If that driver package, downloaded from the ASRock Web Site, did not find the Ethernet Controller on your motherboard, then either the device has failed completely, or that's not the correct motherboard. What does is say under device manager for the Ethernet Controller?

Thanks Wolfshadw.

Yes, I downloaded the driver package from the ASRock website.
I obtained the Motherboard type by running "Piriform Speccy" applications, I presume it's trustworthy...?

Under Device Manager the icon for Ethernet Controller has a yellow exclamation sign. Under properties it says
Device Type: Other devices
Manufacturer: Unknown
Location: PCI bus 1. device 0. function 0
Status: "the drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). There is no driver selected for the device information set or element."

On the side: The computer decided it could connect to the internet all of a sudden (though very slow, the ethernet controller still seems to be unhappy, and there is still no audio), and I could run an automatic update for the ethernet controller driver software, but after an hour it was still searching and froze up.

Update: Search for updates has finished.
"Windows could not find driver software for your device. If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software".
