[SOLVED] Ethernet keeps disconnecting on my new PC. Orange light keeps blinking

Hi guys! I’ve finally just built my new PC. Unfortunately , the Ethernet connection seems extremely unstable.

The Ethernet connection will randomly disconnect every 10 seconds and it will say it can’t find a connection. It will connect back up but eventually disconnect again.

There is a constant green light, but there is also a blinking amber light that continues to blink.

I used a different Ethernet on my new pc but the same issue is persisting, so it’s not to do with the actual cable.

I tried the same Ethernet cable on my old PC and interestingly it had two green lights (one was blinking), rather than one green one amber blinking.

So, from my limited knowledge, this seems to be either an issue with my computer? maybe the motherboard or possibly a software issue? Wrong settings or conflicts etc maybe?

My computer itself works fine, although I must admit there is a red LED that is always lit up on the motherboard, but there seems to be no specific issue, the red LED just is always on.

Specs :
  • I have a B450 Tomahawk Max II
  • GTX 1060
  • Ryzen 5 3600 CPU
  • 16GB (8x2) 32000mhz
  • I use a modem to connect the Ethernets to the router.
  • Windows 10 64 bit
Could you guys please offer any help or opinions or advice, anything! I just want to use my PC, this sucks...

Does the following link present the User Manual for your Motherboard?

https://download.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/mb/E7C02v3.1.pdf

If so, (verify that I found the correct manual) refer to physically numbered Page 22 and specifically to the LAN Port Status table.

Confirm what the LED's are displaying and what the blinks and colors indicate.

There are two LED so be sure to distinguish between left and right. Left being activity and Right being speed.

Take a close look at the Rear I/O panel , Page 22, and the LAN port. Is the port securely in place and not moving in any fashion. Does the Ethernet cable plug go all the way in and securely click into place?

Likewise look at physically numbered Page 38. Determine...

Use the ipconfig /all and see if the port is actually going disconnected or if the port stays connected but you have other issues.

If you are getting a disconnect state you need to hope it is just multiple bad cables. You could check the ethernet drivers but it is highly unlikely a disconnect state would be caused by them. This leaves a bad port but that can't actually be fixed. I would buy a new cable make sure it is cat5e or better but most important is the cable be pure copper and have wire size 22-24 (no flat or thin cables).
