So, I don’t really know what to say I just know I don’t really have the ability to connect to ethernet. I can connect to wifi but playing League of Legends on wifi is not really a good idea unless its veryy good wifi which I do not have. I am trying to be able to connect to ethernet but it isn’t working though I was able to connect like a month ago but I’m not sure what happened. I also live on campus. I think the problem has something to do with my network adapters, drivers, or maybe updates? Although I think that my drivers and adapters are already updated to the most recent versions but who knows I can be wrong. I know an okay amount about computers so bare with me if any of you have any questions for me. Oh and I built this computer if that is relevant.


If anyone has any solutions they would be appreciated.


TLDR: No ethernet connection but I do have wifi. Settings and information in the image linked. I live on campus if that matters at all so I don't have access to the router or whatever.

Did you disable the wireless network adapter? You should do that if you are trying to go back to wired connectivity.

Reseat the Asus network adapter. Then uninstall and reinstall the newest (verify to be sure) drivers for the card. Reconfigure the adapter to the campus wired network.

Run and post the results of "ipconfig /all" from the command prompt.

The idea being to understand what your current wired network configuration is. Could simply be an configuration error or typo.

 


Ok I uninstalled both and reinstalled the most updated drivers I could

Yeah I have diabled the wireless connection and it doesnt work. The asus is for my wireless connection so I am not sure reseting it will do anything BUT I WILL TRY IT since idk much about computers. But how do I do that? Lol I used the network reset option on windows 10 if you look it up in the start menu that is what I used.

Not sure if this is relevant information.

That is quite a bit of information but that is okay. Not sure [full disclosure] about all of the details therein.

However, the results of "ipconfig /all" shows that Windows is assigning a default IP address (169.254.176.47) to itself which is what it does when an IP address cannot be otherwise obtained.

Could be that you have a defective ethernet cable or wall jack connection in your room. Try another known working ethernet cable Cat 5e or better. Have someone with a wired laptop try your wall jack/ethernet port serving your room. Need to eliminate a physical cabling/connection issue. Make take several tries if the wall jack (port) or cabling is loose with resulting itermittent connectivity.

As for the logs I see a variety of entries with "not" somewhere in the description. Usually in the context that something is not working/running.

Tracing the various events the connectivity is indeed (as I read it all) intermittent but that would be/could be indicitive of a physical cabling/connection issue.

I also noted that the network adapter is a Killer E2200 Gigabit Ethernet Controller. Have seen various comments, complaints, concerns about Killer products.... Just something to keep in mind.

Check out the physical connectivity (wired) and see if you can eliminate that as the source of the problem.

Not sure how or why "IP configuration is not needed for wired" was determined unless that originated with Windows' original assessment and self assignment of the 169.. IP address.

Will need to look into that. Or perhaps someone else following this thread will be able to spot something I am missing. Works for me.
