This has been a pain in the ass for very long. I am constantly trying to fix this, every time I get annoyed at the fact that I just can't use wired internet for no good reason. Trying to keep this short-ish.

1. Ethernet doesn't work, using wifi with a tp-link modem as of now (been using it for years tbf).
2. Drivers are not working properly, despite reinstalling several times. In device manager it shows "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller" and a yellow triangle along with it. Uninstalling/reinstalling, disabling and re-enabling, removing it etc. does not work.
3. Network adapter settings are completely empty, it doesn't detect it there at all.
4. The problem is NOT in the cable nor ports on the router. I have tried 3-4 different cables and different ports on the router. Also it works great on a laptop. The problem could be in my physical computer but all the lights are on, so it's not like it's broken.
5. I have tried just about everything I have read about. I also *I think* updated my bios today, no luck. Tried also a method that told me to shut my computer down, switch off the PSU and hold down the power button for 15 seconds. Anyway it didn't work.
6. I think it means nothing but on my windows taskbar where it shows the internet, it shows the icon for unconnected lan. I'm using wifi though, so it should show the wifi/signal bar. As I said, I don't it's more than just a random "glitch" but I'm trying to give every piece of information that might be helpful.

My motherboard is MSI MS-7846

Anyway, this is my last attempt, I'm really getting tired of trying to fix this, I'm lost lol.

Feel free to ask any questions, of course.

Solution
The car ride home may not have broken anything per se but the ride may well have jostled something loose.

Turn off the power. Open the case and reseat all chips, cards, connectors, jumpers, etc..

Use Task Manager and Resource Monitor to watch what your computer is doing. Pay attention to the Network related tabs.

Check Event Viewer for network related error codes and warnings.
So your objective is to have a wired/Ethernet connection?

Windows 10? Have you tried running the built in troubleshooters?

Any error messages or warnings via Event Viewer?

"Doesn't work" needs more explanation.

Are you sure that either only a wired or a wireless adapter is enabled? Only one or the other should be enabled.

Hey

I have windows 7 ultimate 64bit. I have tried running troubleshooters, no luck. No error messages at all (there was once an error message when installing a driver and it said something about "sleep mode", but since then I have reinstalled the drivers several times and the error has not been popping up anymore).

I'm not sure what you mean with wired and wireless adapters. I get the idea that only one should be enabled, but the problem is that the list of adapters is just empty. Blank. Talking about Network and internet ->Network Connections (change adapter settings).

I would also like to add that I just remembered that it actually can not be an hardware problem. I bought this PC from a friend, and wired connection was working fine up until the day I got it and took it home with me. I highly doubt that the car ride home broke the internet card or whatever the component for that is. It's just not possible.

I was also thinking of upgrading to windows 10, if that could maybe work, but I'm not too sure yet if I want to do that overall.
