Ethernet port not working

I have problem with pc ethernet port. light not blinking. windows is showing network cable unplugged.
I have gigabyte 78lmts2 motherboard. AMD fx 6300 12gb RAM 1tb+160gb+80gb HDD 800w psu. was running in Windows 7, had problem tried with Ubuntu 14.04, then uninstalled win 7 and installed win XP. problem still persisted, took the motherboard to service center they tested and showed me everything is working, took MB home assembled it and it still does not work.
Ethernet port light does not blink. tried with remove of BIOS batt. uninstalling the driver re installing it. tested the connection by connecting it to a friend laptop, it works. no problem in the wire. any help would be appreciated. sorry for bad english

Actually the wire is coming from outside to inside my room. It's a broadband connection. The wire has been provided by my service provider.today only they replaced the wire after I complained about not having a connection

Dodgy cable? Have you tried another one?
