ethernet port to pc

I live in a house and my room is far away from the router which mean i do not get a good connection. there is an ethernet port next to my pc. i tried plugging in an ethernet cable to it and into my pc but it doesnt work. above the two ports are at signs. what do i do so it works? and how?

You'd have to establish which cables in the room (if any) are actually connected to your router.

Look to your wiring - usually near your circuit breaker. Those connections in the room run to ports on the other end - which need to be connected to a router to send the connection to your room.
