I am debating getting an ethernet powerline adapter and I was looking to get some feedback in regards to the speeds that some people get. Do you notice a big difference over wireless? Is it the same speed as connecting directly to the modem using an ethernet cable? Do you get any strange lag spikes or other oddities? Any advice is appreciated.

Solution
Powerline is not even close to using a gigabit Ethernet cable, which will do over 800Mbps, and is very low latency. The 200/500Mbps powerline units usually achieve around 40-80Mbps in actual use, although the new 600Mbps Zyxel PLA5205 hit 125Mbps in tests HERE. Wireless depends on many factors, your home construction, interference from neighboring networks and other devices, and can be unpredictable for high bandwidth uses like gaming or video streaming.
