Ethernet stops working

So I have a laptop with ethernet connection. The problem is that it sometimes just stops working and only solution that I know is to reenter the MAC address, but it happens again after some time. Its kinda very annoying. So does anyone have any ideas what to do to prevent this?

what do you mean by re-entering MAC?
look up your ethernet driver and update it to the latest.
and make sure your router's firmware is all up to date as well.
