Hello all, I am shopping for an ethernet switch for my house. I have 8 Cat6 cable runs to different rooms in my house (for TVs, computers, WAPs etc.), all routing back to the structured wiring panel in an upstairs closet. I will be utilizing Xfinity for my internet and TV signal, so I need a switch with at least 9 total ethernet ports.

I'm assuming I need a switch, and not a router, correct? Anyone have good experience with a particular brand and model that they'd recommend?

Thanks!

I have their X1 wired/wireless TV/internet/phone box, that connects to the coax signal coming into the house.

OK then, thats the modem/router.

So just about any 10/100/1000 switch will work.

Or, you could do 2x 8 port switches, for a little bit less $$

Do you have power outlets in this location?

Yes, the builder installed one outlet in the panel.

Yeah, I haven't figured out how I am going to do the wireless signal yet. With the X1 modem/wireless router in the closet upstairs, it's not exactly an ideal spot to reach the whole house with a good signal, or the back patio. So I need to figure out how to broadcast a strong wireless signal throughout the house. I did not pre-wire for in-ceiling APs like Ubiquity pucks... if you have any suggestions for wireless, I'm all ears! Thanks in advance!
