Solution

When you have the results in "Command Prompt", press <Alt><Space>. This will open Application menu, from there select Edit, Select All, then just press <Enter>. You have now results in the clipboard.

Repeat the above when it works, and when it "drops out". Compare results in both cases.
No interim pop-up windows or error messages?

Is wired the preferred connection?

Only one network adapter (wired or wireless) should be enabled.

If both are enabled on your laptop there could be some strange results.

Verify that the wireless adapter is disabled.

If that does not help then run and post the results of "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) via the Command Prompt.

I disabled the wireless adapter and it does hold longer but still drops out .When I try to run ipconfig/all in the command box I see a black screen for an instant and then it disapears .When it drops out if I right click the icon and run the trouble shooter it shows gateway not available and says fixed and it comes back on .I am running windows 10 could this be why command prompt not working?

Is there anything specific I am looking for very long list and cant seem to copy it
