Here is my situation, this should be an easy answer - I simply need an ethernet wall port to connect two adjacent rooms. In theory, all I need is a female-female connector on each end going through the drywall. I'm essentially trying to get an ethernet port into a room from the office, which has the modem. All I'm looking to do is plug an ethernet cable into the wall from the modem, and then (in the other room) plug a cable from the female wall port to my computer, giving my computer direct access to the modem.

I've tried looking up tutorials online, but everything I've found is FAR more complex than I need. I know my way around computers fairly well, but networking a severe lack on knowledge for me.

Here is a basic picture of what I'm looking to do:

Solution
Simple enough.

Buys 2 of these CAT5 ADAPTERS.
Buy a CAT5 patch cable long enough to connect the 2.
Buy 2 wall KEYSTONE WALL PLATES to make it nice.
Buy 2 wall low voltage boxes to make it sturdy.

Depends whether your modem has MDI-X auto switching, one of the patch cable in the chain may need to be a CAT5 CROSSOVER cable.

That's it. No special tools needed except whatever you need to run the cable through the wall, cut the wall blah-blah.

all the tools and parts that you need can be purchased at lowes, home depot or online.

if the above seems too difficult just drill a hole in the wall and run a cat 5 cable, its not going to be pretty but will do the same thing.
