Just wondering which Video card I should get for my new build that ill be purchasing the next day or so.

Id also like to play WOW and maybe a couple first person. Prob most strategy.

First off, heres my proposed system:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3
MOBO: ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD
Ram: OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
Monitor: Acer X193W+BD Black 19" 5ms Widescreen

And for the Video card I was thinking:

MSI R4770-T2D512 Radeon HD 4770 512MB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card

Do you guys think this system and especially video card would be able to run games like EVE or WOW or other strategy games with no problem?

Also, what type of internet connection should one have for EVE?

Thanks for the help!!!!

Nice system you are planning there. Yes, a 4770 should do fine in WOW (as I think it is only moderately graphics intensive). If you are unsure, you could always step up to a 4850 (a little faster) or a 4870 (quite a bit faster).

One note on the ram though, that is the type with the tall heatsinks, correct? Be sure there is sufficient space/clearance for it next to your CPU cooler. I was going to get the same (but DDR2, of course) stuff, but was worried so just got the platinum short stuff.

That is correct about the ram and You make a good point about the ram. Maybe Newegg would be able to let me know what they think. Doubt it, tho. Im gonna have to look into that.

Thanks again!

The monitor recommended resolution is 1680 x 1050. So, thats prob what ill be playing at?

Knowing that, what do you think about video card, the 4850 one???

I play WoW on 1680 x 1050 with a 4670, and play Wintergrasp (battlegrounds) with no problem. I used to own a 4850, and it was fine in the raids. I have not played any raids with this new card yet so I am not sure how it will work. I play almost on max settings for graphics, one click below.

Sorry for taking so long to get back (Exams were giving me a fun time). For the ram, I believe it is recommended to be in the close slots, however, it depends a lot on the CPU cooler you use. If it is a small one or stock, that ram is fine. If you would like a comparison, look up my board (in my sig) and an AC Freezer 64. With those two, the tall ram would not fit (and the platinum just squeezed in). What CPU cooler are you going to use?

I hear ya on exams. Had mine last week. But, now its summer. Hope exams went good!

I decided to go with the platinum. It looked to have better latency and timing than the tall ram.

And besides your def right, it wouldnt have fit.

I think the HD4770 is an excellent choice and it's what i'd recommend for both Eve and WoW in the $90 - $120 range. The performance of the 4770 at 1680X1050 resolution is excellent and you'd have to drop about another $50 to get much better real world performance (4870/GTX260)

Do you think the 4850 is better, just a lil, than 4770? Really like the HDMI output on the 4850.

Quite frankly either one is not a bad choice, with the price drop of the 4850 to $100 after rebate (or lower) the real world performance is the about the same. Right now the drivers for the 4770 are immature, but they'll improve as time goes on. Some 4770s also come with the DVI - HDMI adapter. The 4850 runs a bit hotter and is usually a bit louder (depending on it's cooling solution) it also uses more power.
A year ago for $100 you'd have been looking at the 8600GT or the HD3850. The performance we're getting now at the $100 mark is fantastic in comparison.
