Hello,

Am using Acronis True Image Home Premium 2014 and trying to restore a system partition i.e. C drive of Toshiba Satellite C660 laptop running Win 7 Ultimate to my new Dell Vostro 2520 laptop using the Universal Restore feature.

I read about the requirements of the same and have the Chipset & HDD drivers in inf,sys format ready. The whole process of restoring goes ahead smoothly without any missing driver error. However when the Dell laptop restarts, BSOD :'(
It does not boot even in safe mode. After pausing the blue screen I noticed 0x0000007B error which means missing/incompatible HDD driver!! but I've downloaded the same from dell website so I am sure I've the required drivers.

I don't know where I am going wrong. Can anyone please help me out with the same??

Thank You

that error is commonly found when the sata port is in the wrong mode. Go into the dell bios and if its set to ahci then change it to IDE/Legacy/Compatibility mode. If its set to IDE then change it to AHCI naturally.
Cheers.
You can't restore a disk image of one computer onto another without issues unless the motherboards are almost identical. The issue is that Windows does not have the chipset drivers to even load itself.

You can try booting up the original system, then running sysprep to remove the old drivers and have Windows load new ones, then run the imaging program again to capture the image after that.

sysprep.exe /generalize /oobe /shutdown

This will cause the system to reset it's Windows setup basically to new (you will need to re-enter your Windows code again) and shutdown. Boot off the Arconis boot disk, create the image, restore it onto the new laptop.

In theory, this should work.

Thanks for the reply. During the restore process I do provide the chipset drivers of the new dell laptop. AHCI drivers are native in Win 7 so providing those drivers would be redundant. The error message that pops up in the blue screen suggests that it is a HDD driver problem and not a chipset or any other issue.

Am also following this link but of no use 🙁

Thanks for the reply. That does not make any difference. The blue screen pops up irrespective whether its IDE or AHCI mode.

I have had this issue before.

the best way to resolve is to follow this guide here

http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/30910-making-a-hardware-independent-sysprep-image-with-vmware-and-norton-ghost

create the image in vmware then use sysprep.exe , on reboot , boot to the acronis cd and take the image

when restoring on a different pc you may get driver errors but it will still complete and boot the operating system.

If you want to have it automatically install the drivers of the destination disc i reccomend taking a backup of the new discs drivers using driver magic , then when restoring the old pc image to the new disc specify the folder ( use a usb drive to store the drivers )

in theory this should work ,

Yes, this is exactly what you get when you try to restore an image to a different computer. Boot the original, and go though the sysprep option I posted, image the system again and try to dump that image on the new system, see what happens.
