Hi,

-We have an Ethernet Network with a Windows NT 4.0 Server
& Windows 98SE Clients.

-I am receiving the following message:

The master browser has received a server announcement from
the computer <IRA-OLD> that believes that it is the master
browser for the domain on transport <NetBT>. The master
browser is stopping or an election is being forced.

-I checked to see if the Subnet Mask on the PDC (our
Server) and the Client (IRA-OLD) are the same - and they
are.

-I tried removing the Network Adapter on the client and
reinstalling it. This worked to a minimal extent - in
that I was then able to logon to the network, to see other
client PCs on the Network - but unable to see (in Network
Neighborhood) the Fileserver.

Please send any suggestions on how to remedy this problem
to me via email (ed@eba-nys.org). Thank you very much for
your help. Ed

Hi Ed,

Disable the computer browser service on
the offending machine and see if this resolves
your issue. Using the network applet in the
control panel double click on the file and
print sharing client and change the master
browser to disabled.
