Hello there
I've been having issues with my computer and that it freezes randomly , sometimes it un-freezes after 30 seconds or so but other times it stays frozen.

Sorry for being vague , but i really don't have any other information as there are no error messages etc.
I was told to check out event viewer and sure enough there is an error everytime before the system shuts down unexpectedly. It is ID 56.

See this screenshot please :) : http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/9321/93146098.jpg

It says something about ACPI , is this to do with BIOS?

Thanks for all your help in advance!

BIOS yes, but more to the point it's whatever is using this on your system that's giving you an issue.

Go online to your PC makers web site, grab all the latest drivers you can get off it. Start with the BIOS and chipset updates first, then do the rest. Some systems even come with a Windows utility that connects and does the update searches for you.

Thanks very much mate will try it!
Another thing with it , it sometimes freezes BEFORE i even get into windows - but the weird thing is i have ubuntu dual booted and it never freezes when im in Ubuntu? Only Windows 7.
Thanks again!

P. S - My PC is a homebuilt one and not a dell or a certain brand.
My motherboard is EVGA - should i get all the drivers from the EVGA and ATI website (for my GPU)?

Thanks , sorry for your time!

Right, Windows 7 has some driver that is using ACPI that is having an issue.

Linux does not use the same drivers. That just means there is no phsical issue with the system.

Yes, get the EVGA drivers and ATI as well just to make sure.

Also run any Windows updates as there are quite a few bug fixes that come out.
