Every Steelseries mousewheel sucks?

I am on my 3rd Steelseries mouse, and every single one has had problems with its mousewheel. I tried two of the Warcraft MMO mouse, and now I have the Cataclysm mouse.

Both warcraft ones were identical in problem: When scrolling the wheel at a semi fast pace or higher, some or all of the rotations wouldn't register, resulting in the screen barely moving or not at all.

The cataclysm mouse is worse. When scrolling down, no matter what speed, will randomly skip upwards. Not just one space though, it will sometimes skip as many as 5 whole clicks upward from a single down scroll.

I have tried all 3 mouses with and without their drivers from the Steelseries website, and nothing changed in the slightest. I even opened up the Cataclysm mouse to try and find the issue. There was only tiny bits of dust, no noticeable problem at all.

What is going on!? Is Steelseries just that bad at making mouse wheels? Is there something else that could be causing this? I've been able to get the these mouses from 80% off, to free, but I can't stand the glitchyness and would really like to fix this Cataclysm mouse.

(Update: There is consistency to the Cataclysm's glitch. Every 19th downward scroll causes it to jump upwards. However, it jumps upwards 3 separate times in a row, with one click inbetween being fine. In other words, the 19th, 21st, and 23 click cause it to jump upward, and then it repeats.)

Where did you get them free or at 80% of price? Used? I have the WOW mouse and had no issues with it, but then again I have not tracked the scroll that closely, just never noticed anything bad.
They were on clearance at Micro Center. Looked basically brand new, just both had the exact same wonky wheel. Even my current mouse wheel has issues sometimes with scrolling, but not as annoying as this.

I have the steelseries cataclysm mouse too, and mine does the same scroll thing, randomly jumping up a few spaces. It isn't a driver issue, because it happened before I got the drivers, and it happens now that i have them. It's so bad that if i want to scroll down I'm forced to use the scroll bar on the side of the page. I can't speak for other steelseries products, but the cataclysm mouse definitely has issues with the scroll wheel. My cata mouse also has consistency, but it's every 6th and 8th scroll instead of 19, 21, and 23.
