everytime i plug my usb in it asks to format it but when i format it, it then says it is unable to format it... any help?

i plug my usb into my computer and immediately a pop up comes up telling me that I have to format my usb before I can use it. I click format and then it comes up with another pop up which I presume is the format window. I then click format and it comes up with "windows was unable to complete the formatting." one I click 'ok' it then comes up with another pop up saying "check to see that your disk and drive are connected properly, make sure the disk is not read-only and then try again. For more information, search help for read-only files and how to change them". I have searched that and nothing has came up. I really need to get this usb working because it was quite an expensive one I got for Christmas and I really need it for school!

on some usb stick there a anti write tab see if yours is in the locked position. try the stick on another pc to see if the stick is bad or your pc has damaged usb drivers. if the stick works on another pc. make sure all your drivers are updated. also check that you have newest bios on the mb to rule out a bios issue. if the stick is unreadable on another pc it went bad. as it under 30 days return it.
