EVGA 1070 - Can I use an 8 to 6+2 (x2) cable to power it?

My card needs 16 pins (8 x 2) to be powered.

My PSU (RM650x) has a cable which is 8-pin to 6+2 (x2). Which is 8pin to 16pins. Is this an acceptable way to power the 1070? Or does the source end need to have 16 pins as well?

I could run it as 8 -> 6+2 twice, but I'm wondering if the split will work (since one cable is a lot nicer than 2!)

you can and should use it.
there is no meaning to the number of wires on the PSU side in this case.
