EVGA 1070 FTW or SC Black Edition

Trying to decide between these two GPUs.

So far as I can tell the main differences/reasons to get the FTW are a backplate and 10+1 VRM (vs. 4+1 on the SC B.E.).

My questions about these points are:

1) Is the backplate functional or just for aesthetics. By functional I meen, does it help prevent card sag and does it help cool (anything?)

2) Is the Overclocking potential of this GPU that much better for having 10+1 phase correction?

I realise this is probably best answered by owners of the specific GPUs but I'm interested if anyone at all has heard info touching on these points .

Cheers :)

Solution
The backplate is normally used for cooling the VRAM chips (among other components). Plus it keep the printed circuit side of the board from being exposed to anything falling across electrical contact points. Check the clock speeds. Usually the FTW is the fastest of the factory OCs.

Yes, the more power phases, the better. All else being equal.
