Evga 275GTX, nv_disp.dll crash, and the drivers

Of all the problems I've encountered on computers thus far, this has to be one of the more irritating ones I've yet to solve.



So. My former video card (An Evga 8800 GTX) would get graphical corruption and cause the computer to lock up, forcing me to reboot. I tried updating the drivers, no go. I figured to myself, "Well. It's just this game, "Empire: Total War"."

Then the video card clonked out, graphical corruption, dots during bios boot-up, wouldn't boot except in safe mode, etc.

I bought an Evga 275 GTX and went on my merry way.

Except it would still crash in Empire Total War, and any other game, and even WoW would crash -eventually-.

So I thought to myself, "Uh oh." and started running down the gambit of problems. I switched out my PSU, no good. Switched out my RAM, no good(thank the computer gods for spare parts). Finally. In frustration, I rolled back my drivers to 182.50....

Bingo. The crashes promptly stopped. Age of Conan, WoW. And if I reinstalled Empire Total War, I'm suspecting it wouldn't crash either.

But every driver past 182.50 is a disaster. What the hell gives here? Am I stuck with this driver forever?

you might just help me, i'm having a similar problem, but much more extreme. my game wouldnt boot at all, so i'm ma roll back the driver and see what happen.

I actually did find out what was causing my crashes. I've a 780i SLI Evga motherboard. I updated the BIOS and the sound drivers with the ones from evgas website, then used the very latest drivers. The problems were completely gone.

I'm not sure which was the culprit, though I'd bet money on the BIOS. I'd make sure the firmware on your BIOS is fully updated. Something in the video card driver just didn't like it.
