EVGA 780 FTW clock running to fast

I have a EVGA 780 FTW Video card on a MSI Z87-G45 Gaming motherboard. I am having a issue with the GPU clock running too high. Everything in EVGA Precision X is set to default except for my fan curve. I figured maybe it was the MSI GPU boost but I set that to off and even tried uninstalling it and am still having the same problem. They do sell a MSI GTX 770 with the same clock I am seeing so I am wondering if my motherboard thinks it is a different card. Not sure what else I can do to fix the problem. EVGA 780 FTW is supposed to run at GPU 980/1033 boost and it is running at 1136.6 in every game I play. The GPU clock reads correct in GPU-Z but when running a game they boost up higher than they should. After a while this is causing my video to throttle my FPS way down. I am hoping I can fix the problem without having to buy a MSI video card. I spoke with EVGA and they did not have any recommendations. Any help would be appreciated.

According to the spec on the card it is 980 with a boost of only 1033 and is actually boosting to 1136. This is normal?

Interesting thanks for the info. Maybe I should down clock it about 50mhz or increase the power some which is currently at 100 percent in Precision X. The card is not overheating (max 64 C) but it throttles down after a while of playing. Any suggestions on this? The EVGA tech did tell me that 1136 sounded to high for that card but maybe he was wrong?

I was able to get a stable gameplay for hours by down clocking 103 MHz to around factory overclock. I am still not sure why it overclocked so much higher than it should have but all is good now. Would be nice if I could have played at 1136 MHz though!

I have a similar problem with my Evga 780 classified.

I have to put it down -105 mhz in precision X software. If i don't do this it will run to high at 1150 mhz in some games and then crash.

The weird thing is that it is only for some games it does this. In other games and the Evga test software it runs fine at about 1050mhz normal and then 950mhz when i have it down clocked.

What is up with this unstable clock frequencies in different games?

PS: the switch on the card (for selecting second bios) does not seem to affect this at all.

The card I had was defective and I had to send it in for a replacement. This may or may not be the issue you are having. Mine was overheating in all the games I was playing but as soon as I plugged in my new card have not had any overheating issues.
