I was quite excited to come across an EVGA branded tower cooler. I wasn't even aware they made them. IDK what the actual price is or was but what it is selling for now seems to be quite a bargain, but...
This cooler uses the same twist lock method that the stock coolers do except they are held captive in a loose-fitting circular piece of metal. As you are pushing down it has a bad tendency to unhook the others you have already snapped down and supposedly secured. Almost without fail I would get it set, press the last of the four pins down and a specific one would un-snap every single time. It is so incredibly fiddly and awkward. I highly suggest having your SO/friend help. Have them hold that one (you will know after a few attempts) while you press down the rest. DO NOT lay that motherboard back down on the pins that are supposed to be secured because that ONE (once gain) will un-snap.
Once you have cussed sufficiently to appease the PC junk bought gods you might find it actually holds. Using a 'sticky' paste helps a lot, no lie....it actually cools 7th gen i5 just fine. Probably would be ok with a locked i7 in the older generations. I would not really consider trying this on anything past 9th gen either i7 or unlocked. It does not dissipate heat THAT well. Otherwise, it is a really good looking cooler. It sort of has that Noctua NH-U9S look about it, but don't be deceived, this thing performs nothing like that anywhere outside EVGA wildest dreams.
I had planned on putting this inside a system with a darn near matching EVGA 1050ti. Would have looked so, so Boss. I did not want the person I sold it to complaining or trying to bring back because the CPU was scorching. I was lucky enough to find that one of the Z170 boards I had on hand were pretty much a perfect match for it. I did not sand the top off the CPU, allegedly. (lol) It looks great and has been holding tight for a week plus now. I still won't pick it up by the cooler though, hear that telltale click.
For the current price and look, if you can get it to secure it is well better than most things at this price. If you were to spend a few more dollars there are better lesser name brand generic-ish fans that would not only do a better job, but also not spontaneously jump from the motherboard.
Get something else.
