Thanks for the hit and run post in the forums. Hope you're doing well in life. You will be missed.
Update:
This week there was a game change: Corsair Hx750 (the platinum, not the old version). That PSU is just perfect for me.
The store I was going to buy the EVGA 750P2 (or the evga G3) now has the new Corsair HX750 at a great price point! I can get a platinum PSU with corsair at similar price point of EVGA's P2 or even G3 series. Nicely done Corsair! At R$ 730 (or 212 USD) this is a great deal in Brazil! This new HX rocks!
The HX750 has 2x 4+4 pin for cpu and 4x pcie 6+2 for GPU (evga G3 has 6x pcie, but it uses 18awg, while corsair HX uses 16awg) - since I'll never use more than 2 Gpus, that's fine.
Even better than the platinum certification is the Cybenetics report that goes much deeper in analyzing a PSU:
https://www.cybenetics.com/code/pdf.php?id=TH3
Cybenetics report of the HX750 is just like reading a beautiful poetry: quiet FDB fan, low ripples, great voltage regulations and amazing holdup time. All the good stuff I was looking for.
(By the way, where is your Cybenetics report of the G3 750 and P2 750, EVGA? 80 plus certification is not enought nowadays).
Corsair's new HX750 has 10 years warranty, now on pair with Evga's. However, there is a big difference here: searching and talking in Brazilian forums, I found out that Corsair has an RMA service in Brazil, while EVGA would send my PSU to USA in case of any problem. Finally, unlikely most companies, Corsair indeed honor their on box labeled warranty (many companies have a different and a lower 1 year warranty for Brazil, no matter what is written on the box).
For me, the biggest drawback of the hx750 is its 180mm length. I use a compact Corsair 400q, so it can be a problem. I think I can make it fit by repositioning the HDD case closer to the fan, but it will be tight nevertheless. It would be nice if Corsair could make future PSUs of this 750w series a bit smaller (like 165mm or 170mm). However, that's not a deal breaker (as long as it indeed fit).
It would also be nice if Corsair included a single 6+2 pcie cable (not only the dual ones), so that the extra 6+2 pin would not be hanging lose when not needed - but that’s just minor nitpick.
Another consideration is about Corsair recycling the name “HX” - it’s very confusing. When I googled searching for reviews of the HX750, the top results were 2009 articles. Couldn’t Corsair just use something like “HX750 v2”? Would be far more intuitive. Anyway, it gave me more work then necessary, but I found the right reviews of the 2017 platinum variant, not a bit deal.
In conclusion, with the HX750, Corsair just become the better option for me (against either Evga’s P2 or G3). Corsair is offering a great performance and price with this new HX (I really do not care about usb link to monitor stuff and HX750i is crazy expansive in Brazil anyway). Honestly, the feeling I have is that Corsair filled a gap: with the HX750 I found the level of performance I was searching for, at a price I can pay. The fact that corsair offer technical support in Brazil with local RMA, just sealed the case in its favor. (I’ll probably never need an RMA, but knowing it’ll be there in my country if needed, just give me peace of mind). I should be buying it next week, with my next payment!
🙂
Thanks everybody for your help and ideas!
