EVGA GeForce GTX 780 (with ACX Cooler)?

Does this video card need additional cooling? I'm new when it comes to building a PC, and a few of my brother's friends have told him that a graphics card shouldn't exceed 60 degrees Celsius, which I find a little hard to believe (I always thought that it shouldn't exceed 75-80).

Anyways, will this card need additional cooling? Is it even possible to put additional cooling on graphics cards?

The case I wanted already has enough ventilation, and this model of the 780 Ti Superclocked comes with an ACX cooler.

your brother's friend doesn't know what he's talking about. the thermal limit of the 780 is 95c. but with the ACX cooler you will probably stay under 60c.

No the ACX is one of the better coolers and it is 80C for the temp you would have to have some impressive water cooling maybe even ice to keep a GPU under 60 at load.

EDIT: forgot about SLI bottom card is mid 60 top is low 70 so with good airflow 60 seems doable on a single card partial load.

I don't know what you mean by "additional" cooling. The card already comes with an ACX cooler installed, what more do you want? You can install custom coolers on GPUs, yes, but that is exactly what the ACX cooler is. Even a standard cooler would be fine. If your case has good airflow even better. You don't need to worry at all.

If you are not experiencing any crashes, artifacts or unexpected blackouts and shutdowns then your card is operating just fine and you shouldn't worry about it. If you are still concerned however, improve the airflow and fan positioning in your case, but that is usually not required with any decent case. That and the ACX cooler is very good.

60c is very cool for a GPU at load... Most GPUs are rated to 90c+ i personally wouldn't want my card running over 80c... Your brothers friend is simple wrong lol.
