Hi, recently upgrading my PSU to an EVGA 650W GQ Gold 80+ PSU, and wanted to try the Eco Mode (without it the PSU is the noisest component, and I want it quieter). Turning on Eco mode causes a strange trickling ticking noise

Are all of then like this or is it just my model? I couldn't find much of a fix anywhere else. I did get the PSU off amazon reduced from £85 to £62 could it be that this is just a refurbished model?
Is there any way I could control the PSU fan speed another way?
Cheers in advanced

Solution
Eco mode is controlled by a thermistor, a really small thermal probe that when the psu reaches a certain load/temp it closes a relay and allows power to the fan. That click you hear on the video is that relay closing. Granted it sounds a little loud, but shouldn't be an issue.

No. Fan speeds are controlled directly by the psu. Unless you have an addressable psu, like the Corsair i series using Corsair link, the psu is on its own. I have eco on my G2 550w, never use it, don't need to. Unless you are pushing some serious need for power, that fan shouldn't be really doing much at all, and if you did need that 650w psu for a reason, I'd question why you got a GQ in the first place.

Evga has the best customer service/support of any pc related products, bar none. If you feel this psu is not upto snuff, call them, they'll be more than happy to help I'm sure.

Solution
Bought a 650W PSU for future proofing and was recomended atleast 550W for my Rx480. Heard the quality of the GQ is far higher than the G1,2 and 3, since the better capacitors were made in japan.
I will contact Evga though, and see if they can help.
Thanks

Partly right. The G1, Nex version of Supernova psus were crap. And the GQ is better. But there's a huge difference between an NEX and a G2/G3 SuperFlower Leadex platform, which currently rank in the top tiers of any platform, and do have Japanese 105° solid aluminium caps. The G2/G3 are on par with the Corsair RMx, Seasonic Focus Plus Gold etc. You'd have to move to the Platinum series psus to get better, depending on the OEM platform and who the vendor is.

It basically goes G1...... GQ. GS.. G2. G3
