1. You can read VRM Temps with HWiNFO.
2. EVGA fixed it, well the main part of it, but the old design cards are still in the sales channel.
3, The thermal pad is the only "real fix". Changing the BIOS doesn't really address the issue as the only things that can do is increase fan speeds (not very effective on VRMs) and cut card performance to reduce heat.
4. The SC series has been similarly plagued since the 5xx series. Weak VRMs, poor VRM / memory cooling and lack of the special componentry used by Asis Gigabyte, MSI etc has been a "feature" of the SC series oir at least 5 generations. With 9xx the heat sink "missed" the GPPU with only 2 of the 3 heat pipes in contact with the GPU.
5. If it's new, I'd return to sales point and ask for a exchange for a card not affected by the problem.
