EVGA GTX 660ti Running Hot

Hey, I just got my new 660ti and I noticed that when I'm playing games like BF3 or Farcry 3 the GPU will get to around 80C with the fan turned up as high as it can go. Is this bad or is it normal? I'm just worried because my last video card (HD 7770) would never go passed 70C with the fan at 50%.

Yikes. That sounds way too hot. I have a MSI 660ti and it get up to 68C in BF3, but Far Cry 3 makes it reach 74C. I'd rather have it under 70C too. Can you add a side fan to blow air at your GPU?

Room temp is around 78F. I have a fan on the side window right next to the card that blows air at it. Should I open a support ticket on the EVGA website to get this sorted out?

Games provide a varying load so it's hard to use as a barometer for cooling efficiency. Id suggest running OCCT or Furmark and use that standard for other peeps to provide comparable readings.

What's your case like ..... mid tower or bigger I hope, w/ no less than 2 fans blowing in and 2 blowing out. One way to check whether your case is doing it's job is to take side panel off and use s strong desk or small window fan to blow inside the case.

I have an NZXT M59 midtower case. There is a side panel fan blowing air right on to the video card and there is also a rear exhaust fan. Both are 120mm

So you have the fan speed at 100% and it still reaches 80c? Not very good indeed. Download MSI afterburner and set a fan curve and let us know how it performs.

What should I set the fan curve to?

Find a fan curve that suits your acoustic tastes. I personally set mine at 70+ once temperatures reach 70c and above.

Just decided to RMA it. Sending it back tomorrow. Gonna go with the MSI Twin Frozr 660Ti. Reviews on it say it runs really cool and quiet. Thanks for all the help!
