EVGA GTX 770 ACX rattle?

Hi, I purchased a 770 SC from amazon about two weeks ago. The acx cooler rattles at certain rpms around 50% on precision x. Apparently this is a common issue with the cooler, which of course I couldn't have discovered before I bought the EVGA card and not the asus:kaola:

But anyway.... I've started the RMA process with EVGA and to be honest its not as straight forward as I would have hoped. I'm wondering if anyone else has this particular card without any rattling? I don't want to go to the hassle of sending it away and being without a card for at least two weeks just to get a replacement with the same problems

I've also heard the 780 suffers from the same issues.

So let me know if you have either without any rattle/noise issues

cheers

My friend has a 770 ACX from EVGA that he bought and he doesn't suffer any rattling. Could be your fan just had a bad bearing.

#1 thing to remember, is when researching you're going to hear about people who have the same problem as you. You're less likely to hear from the people who are happily enjoying their product ;) I'd say go ahead and RMA it and see if the new one gets you anywhere. If not, I would see if you could return it to your retailer.

I had a similar issue with my 770 ACX. It had coil whine under load but it seemingly got less bothersome over time. Maybe I got used to it.

I'll RMA it when the GTX 970 comes out so I can get a 970 for free :p

I've decided against doing the RMA and instead I'm going to see if I can just replace it with the asus card from amazon. I know you rarely hear from does with working cards but this does genuinely seem to be a widespread issue. Some people claim to be on their 3rd or 4th card and the EVGA forums are full of people having the issue. It's very annoying but its a situation where I'd be more surprised now if I got a working card rather than expecting the replacement to work which isn't a good situation to be in considering the cost of these cards.

Hi guys, just a quick update. A few days ago I was pretty set on returning the card but Amazon listed that the Asus 770 was out of stock and would be dispatched within 1-2 months. Obviously I didn't want to wait that long so I found a fix online for the EVGA card. I took off the cooler (which doesn't void the EVGA warranty) and using the tape, tightened the loose cooling fins.

The noise seems to have stopped which is good. However Amazon now have the Asus card back in stock.

In my position what would you do? I could still return it for the Asus card. I've heard the dcu II is a great silent cooler. However the card card I have now is working fine

The main reason I'd return it isthat, honestly, having to tape up a new gpu doesn't instill much confidence in the product.
So let me know yours opinions and what you'd do.
