so I just built my first computer:

4690k
Asustek h97I-plus MoBo

I have an evga gtx 960 graphics that had been working just fine until I got a new monitor. My old one (which I used through hdmi on the graphics card) was old and the colors were off so I gave it to my parents. just a few days ago I received an LG 32' IPS monitor. when I plug it in to the hdmi port on the graphics card the boot screen appears and then goes completely blank (grey) at the windows logo.

Brought it to the computer store and saw them put hdmi into the same exact port and it works for them!
so they say they have no idea what's going on and told me to check my power supply. I come home take out the graphics card put the hdmi into the onboard graphics slot on the mobo and it works just fine. I am completely at a loss, why is my graphics card only working on certain monitors? is my monitor too big (but then why does it work with onboard graphics?)

Possibly your card is trying to run the monitor on a resolution it doesn't support. Try updating the drivers for your 960.
The other thing you could try is booting in safe mode, this should show you if the monitor will at least run from the graphics card. If it does, uninstall the current drivers (from either safe mode or with the onboard graphics), then boot it up on the graphics card....this will give the same low res as safe mode, then install new drivers.

I deleted the drivers using the onboard graphics. Then booted up with the graphics card. It worked and I got in through the low res settings. I go to download the drivers from windows update and it crashes when it tries to install. Any ideas?
