EVGA GTX 970 not working after installing?

My EVGA GTX 970 ACX 2.0 FTW+ just came in the mail yesterday.

After losing my anti-static wristband earlier throughout the week I decided to install with my bare hands, which I don't see as a mistake however. My biggest mistake while installing this gpu was doing it with all its peripherals on. Nevertheless, when I fully installed the GPU and attempted to turn it on it went on for a microsecond and turned off.

And it's not my PSU or any other component either, when turning it on without the graphics card it worked. Is it because I didn't ground myself and accidentally fried it (floor I did it on was carpet) or was it because I had left the monitor, keyboard and such on when installing? Either way, I need help.

Oh, and it might not have been completely installed the first time when turning it on so there's that.

To answer both above replies, my psi is a cx 750m. Mediocre, I know, but it hasn't failed me for 11 months now. I didn't leave the pc on during my first try but left the power cable on and turned on.

Well, that means there was electricity running through the components during your installation, which is very very bad. And its means that you probably fried it.

Also as a side note after removing the power cables but leaving the gpu locked inside the of works... But every few seconds the gpu's fans will kick in for a full 360 spin and die down. Does it mean it still works? As I'm having the impression that it might've died during my first failed installation. Maybe it's just the gpu siphoning insufficentn power from the mobo. Or maybe the power cables are broken, as I'm using the ones that came with the 970. But that's just speculation

@mcnumpty the lights inside the pc when turning on flare up in that microsecond, and I believe even the fans (including gpu's) turn on as well. Can't tell unless I try this again. And @Lag, if you believe so, how do you explain its fans turning every now and then? If it's absolutely impossible to fix myself the issue I'll refund back, but I've waited waaaay too long for this not to try and fix.

no its the other way round--molex to 8 pin is less reliable in my opinion--only for people whose psu doesnt have the needed pci-e cables

use the pci-e cables from the psu

good chance the card is ok

you have booted the pc successfully before you got the new card?

I tried using my psu's 8 pin connector earlier but for some odd reason it didn't fit in, neither did the rest of my 8 pins. So I went for two 6 pins instead, which they didn't reach far enough to the gpu so I brought the gpu down to the middle mobo pcie slot. Put those suckers in and bam! Nothing. Lights briefly turned on and cpu fan. Tried again with a two pin connector to use all the power slots in gpu but same result. Perhaps it's because I put In the gpu in the middle pcie slot and not the top?

middle slot shouldnt really stop the pc powering up even if it had no display

you have got the 24 pin clicked home properly? and the 8 pin?

try taking out the power cord and 24 pin then press on off button a few times then 24 pin and power cord back in and see if it starts--my asus board very rarely plays up and wont boot till i do that

Tried this a couple of times to no avail, and just to make sure I connected it properly afterwards I plugged out the gpu and turned it on, which it worked. Gonna take a break for about 30 mins to an hour, but please guys continue posting possible solutions. If I don't get it to work Monday I'll return I'll return it for another. But even so, thank you all for such rapid support, never would've thought help was on the way after a quick refresh

The fact that you can boot up without the gpu means that the gpu is the likely culprit. As for the fans turning on briefly can simply mean that the fans still work, but the card is damaged to the extent that the computer can't boot with the gpu plugged in.
