Hi guys,

Seemed like a great community so decided to post here, and I was a first time builder. So my problem is that when my GPU is plugged into the Pci-e 16 slot ( with EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 80+ GOLD, 750W) with just the 6pin plug in...it turns on and the fans seem to twitch switch between the two. However I then tried plugging in the 6+2 pin into the 8pin slot...and the computer will not start. Tried again with 2 6pins plugged in. so it seems with only the one 6pin in the GPU it turns on, but the bios nor in OS in device manager it does not see it or detect it, and says "no card in slot; noithing is there" even though its powered with one 6pin in. I've also tried the 6pin + the 6+2 pin at the same time but no luck...

Here are my Specs
-MoBo: asus z170-a atx
-Power:
EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 80+ GOLD, 750W ECO Mode Fully Modular NVIDIA SLI and Crossfire Ready 220-G2-0750-XR
-Cpu: intel i5-6600k
-Cpu cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H105
ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB
-GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB SSC Gaming ACX 2.0+

Set-up- HDMI to asus moniter through the Mobo (but tried plugging into GPU while booting but no luck

Thanks for any input!

The 6+2 end goes into the GPU and if the GPU has both an 8 pin and a 6 pin connector then you need to plug in two cables - the 6+2 and 6 pin. Its possible the PSU is not supplying power to the card yes...only way to tell is to get a mate to test the GPU in their rig...
Firstly, your GPU requires both the 6+2 pin AND the 6 pin connectors in order to function. Secondly, your PSU appears to be fully modular so you need to make sure that the PCI-E cables plugged into your GPU are in the correct sockets on your PSU. Depending on how your cables are physically wired there are a couple of ways of connecting them....

Your PSU has 4 ports labelled VGA1 thru 4 and four PCI-E cables and looking on the EVGA website it appears that there are none which have both the 6+2 and 6 pin connector daisy-chained on a single cable (my corsair PSU has both the 6+2 and 6 pin connectors on the one cable). If this is the case then you need to connect two PCI-E cables to VGA1 and VGA2 on your PSU and plug the other end into the corresponding 6+2 or 6 pin connector on your GPU.
Make sure the cables are properly seated at both ends.

Hi Sinister,

I can verify that i connected both cables (that came with the unit) labeled vga on vga1 and vga2 on the psu, and connected both on the gpu, but the computer still will not turn on. it seems as if I plug only one in it does turn on ( and the gpu as well).

Have you tried a different combination of ports labelled VGA at the PSU end? You have four VGA ports labelled 1 thru 4 so the combinations would be:

1 - 2, 1 - 3, 1 - 4
2 - 3, 2 - 4
3 - 4

Easiest way is to figure out which port gives you the ability to power up your system, then avoid the other port (given using it doesn't allow you to power up your PC). So as an example, say using VGA1 + VGA2 = no power, then use VGA1 + VGA3, then VGA1 + VGA4 and so on...get me?

sure i'll give it a try! also for the gpu end do i plug in the (6+(6+2)) or a 6+6(without the +2). Also i noticed when i unplugged both the power from the gpu, the system turned on with the gpu fans on it spinning a bit, but still does not recognize the gpu. so it might be the psu? I just got all the parts yesterday. I could take apart everything and rebuild...but hopefully thats a last resort.

Sorry for the late reply, but was able to test it on a friends pc, and no response so going to return and test again...its coming in Wednesday so we'll see if its the gpu, or even the psu or mobo...

So it turned out to be the GPU....tested on a friends pc and no luck, so returned to amazon, luckly they have a great return system and sent me a replacement in 2 days while giving me a month to return the dead one. The new one works perfectly and glad it was not my psu or mobo....Thanks a bunch for your time Sinister!
