EVGA Gtx 980 Superclocked Acx 2.0 vs Asus Gtx 980 Strix

I have the Asus on order at NCIX but I noticed today the EVGA is in stock again...any thoughts on which card I should go for? Same price btw.

Personally I have heard of complaints with the EVGA ACX 2.0 cooler not exactly being as good as it was expected to be among some various other issues that can be found on quite a few forums, but as rolli said at the end of the day they are both GTX 970's and will both perform very well.

If you test out the ASUS and have any issues with it I am sure you could return it and opt for the ACX variant later anyway, if its still in stock.

I personally would choose between MSI, Asus and EVGA I would choose on price and if the same on looks.

I did hear about the complaints about the evga 970 axc but I'm not sure if it applies to the 980. My previous cards are evga and I've never had a problem with them so I was originally inclined to go with them but I'm hesitant because of the acx complaints. At the time both cards were out of stock and the Asus was expected to come in first so I went with them. That being said I've heard very good things about the strix. I'm caught between a good previous experience with evga and the potential issues surrounding the acx. <shrug>

It was on the original ACX cards ACX 2 should have it fixed. It was misalignment of heat pipes http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/evga-geforce-gtx-970-acx-has-misaligned-gpu-vs-heatpipes.html It only meant the cards ran a couple of degrees warmer than they should.

I purchased the Evga 980 SC ACX 2.0 cards but returned them because the Asus cards became available. The Asus cards ended up being hotter and louder than the Evga Cards during gaming (Evga cards I couldn't even hear). I returned the Asus cards and repurchased the Evga cards. I was very disappointed in the Asus cards, especially because of the high praise I've been hearing. I highly recommend the Evga cards, great temps and silent. I can't even hear them when I play a highly modded Skyrim. Plus, the Evga customer service can't be beat.

Your right the evga 970 AXC has the issues, I have 2 GTX 980 SC in SLI & I max out all games, I have never seen temps above 65c.
Very quiet to. I would recommend this card to anyone...

Also they overclock well ,even with stock voltage, out of the box 1416MHZ
also had them on 1560MHZ..
Very quiet to. I would recommend this card to anyone ...

That's sad as the ASUS STRIX is thought to be a better deal because of the DCII cooler and backplate. Thank you for your experience, I'm happy I picked up an EVGA SC ACX 2.0 GTX980 4GB. Gaming on my Sharp 4K 70" LC-70UD27U has been very good.
