I've heard that new batches of "fixed" EVGA cards will be going out or have already.

Does anyone know what they've done to fix the VRM issue? Have they just pre applied the thermal pads and the bios update?

There are no overheating issues on the new cards.

Even the current, unmodified cards like mine are fine if you have sufficient case cooling. I'll still apply the pads though.

*Excellent GTX1080 roundup http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-graphics-cards,4725.html

I have an EVGA FTW but if I had to do it over I'd get the Asus Strix OC model.

It's not the thermal issue. That's getting sorted, but rather a fan makes a clunking, rasping sound when it comes out of idle. It's a bit annoying, so i set a fan profile which fixes this and is basically silent (fan doesn't turn off now), but still if I'd known I'd not have got this card.

Works great though.

Cheers guys, sounds like the new cards are good.

My 970 needs RMA but I've decided I'm going to purchase the GTX 1070. The 970 is still great for me but it's an opportunity to upgrade. The 1070 really comes across as being a 1440p card and I'm on 1200p but it should provide plenty of horsepower for a good fair while I would imagine, especially at 1200p. Looks like an awesome card...

Are you sure you can't RMA for that?

Probably. I was seeing if it would sort itself out first.

Fair enough. Has it?

Nope. Fan still makes a clunking noise.

I have other issues going on though (in my life) that are far more important, and I can setup a fan profile that avoids this issue entirely (while being essentially silent) so it's not a big deal.

I can always look into an RMA at a later date.
