Question EVGA PSU "PCIE" cable, what is it for?

It has a CPU plug (8 pin) on the PSU side, and a double 6+2 VGA (connector shape) plug on the other end. The PSU side plug is labelled "PCIE', and the double 6+2 ends have no labels. My EVGA Supernova T2 has 2x CPU and 4x VGA ports, but the box only came with 2x CPU, 2x VGA 1x "PCIE" and a MB and accessories pair. I need the extra VGA power for my new GPU arriving tomorrow.

Is this a backup extra VGA jumper cable for maybe EVGA PSUs that only have 2x VGA ports but needed to power a triple 8-pin GPU? I bought this PSU in 2018 before 3 pin cards were the minimum standard connector count.

that is a pcie cable for the gpu. they usually have 2 x 6+2 connections like you see. 2 of those cables would be the 4 pcie connections the psu claims to have. it won't have 4 separate 6+2 cables in most cases.

what is the EXACT psu model? so can double check and be sure exactly what it is supposed to have and so on.

it i snot uncommon for only one end to be labeled and the pcie label on the psu side is telling you that is what is on the other end. the 8-pin cpu connector should say cpu on the psu side and so on. this way you know where to plug it in on the psu itself.

It is an EVGA Supernova 850 T2. Mine is from 4-5 years ago, so the cable options they ship with now and the labeling they adhere to has changed, making it hard to figure out just looking at the current EVGA website and the available cables.

I should mention the 8 pin on the PSU side only has 7 pins in it, I believe it's the lower left when facing the CPU, that pin/cable is empty. The cable physically fits the EVGA CPU socket and the other end physically fits my GPU.

all the pictures i am seeing show the vga cables as each having 2 6+2 connections on each cable.

the cpu cable may appear to fit but it is still a cpu cable and meant for that use. you should be able to use 2 of these vga cables (total of4 6+2 connections) for the 3x 8-pin gpu you are looking at. no issue there.

that cpu cable is not for a gpu and whether it appears to fit or not that is not what it is for.

The cable in question has an 8-pin (one missing wire) on one side SLOTTED for the CPU port on the PSU. On the other end, it has a 6+2 SLOTTED for the GPU PCIE connector, with a daisy chain second 6+2.

The "PCIE" cable cannot be plugged into the PSU "VGA" ports, and similarly, the 6+2 ends cannot be plugged into the motherboard EPS 4x4 connector. This is an EVGA specific PSU modular cable that physically seems to only plug a VGA 8 pin into the PSUs CPU output port.

I just wanted to extra double check that the cable in question works as I believe it does, before I jack it into my new 3090 Ti and smoke comes out because there is some secret or special use for the cable I am unaware of. 😵
