Hey everyone,
I have a EVGA Z68 FTW Board (160-SB-E689-KR) that will be used for a GPU farm and I wanted to know if anyone can confirm the cheapest processor that will work with the system.
I know the specs state i3 to i7 but would an Intel G530 Sandy Bridge work?

Thanks for the information!

probably not, i got this from EVGA's site regarding CPUs that will work with the Z68 series mobos:

P67/Z68 Series Motherboard (LGA 1155)◦Sandy Bridge
■Core i7 2700K – 3.50 GHz
■Core i7 2600K – 3.40 GHz
■Core i7 2600 – 3.41 GHz
■Core i5 2500K – 3.30 GHz
■Core i5 2500 – 3.30 GHz
■Core i5 2400 – 3.10 GHz
■Core i5 2300 – 2.80 GHz
■Core i3 2120 – 3.30 GHz
■Core i3 2100 – 3.10GHz

as long as its lga 1155 it will work and spend the money on video cards to get a nice hash speeds. I use to mine with my desktop when I was away but the value of bitcoin is over 100 bucks now I bet that currency will crash soon its value has increase too fast in a short period of time. the value of bitcoin last week was 70 bucks...30 bucks a week is way too fast it wont last long

Z68 Socket 1155 boards should support any of the 2nd generation Intel® Core™ processors (including the Intel Pentium® and Intel Celeron® processors). Now this board should also support the 3rd generation Intel Core processors with updated Bios.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone!

I looked at that post on evga and it seems like people did use a G530.
The alternative Crypto currencies are going crazy! Who know where it's going. Bitcoins would have been a good investment a year ago.

I'm going to roll the dice and try a G530. Worst case scenario is I have to get an i3. I'll update when I know so there is no doubt.
