Useful for AV / VTC folks as they might actually run that many displays. Actually I know of a location that could use a ton of these.

Unfortunately there are hardware limitations that prevent HDMI from being able to do this. One of the features built in to DisplayPort was being able to power multiple monitors off one output, so this device is just utilizing that ability. HDMI doesn't have this feature.

Unfortunately, they lost me at not being able to play nice with higher than FHD. I run 1920x1200 monitors, which would be outside this thing's range.

No, but that device supports adapters, to convert dp to hdmi.

kinda lame, anything with enough power to drive 5760x1080 while gaming already has enough outputs. Only useful if you are running business stuff on multi monitors off an ultrabook or something.

You guys seem to miss a large portion of the video cards out there, Sure Gaming video cards support up to 6 display outputs, but your work video cards, such as the quadro cards have very limited video outputs, and this can be greatly used by graphic designers or cad/cam operators. Its not all about the gaming environment.
